Vedanta University Project Revived After Odisha CM’s Assurance, Says Anil Agarwal

Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Agarwal on Thursday said that Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has assured him that the long-awaited Vedanta University project will be established only in Odisha, reigniting hopes for the ambitious educational venture.

Agarwal made the remarks following a meeting with the Chief Minister in Bhubaneswar, where they discussed the Group’s plans for an additional Rs 1 lakh crore investment in the state.

“The Vedanta University project was also discussed, and the Chief Minister told me that if a world-class university has to be set up, it should be only in Odisha. I thanked him for the gesture,” Agarwal told reporters after the meeting.

Originally announced in 2006, the proposed Vedanta University — envisioned as a not-for-profit, world-class institution near Puri — had faced delays due to land acquisition and legal hurdles. The recent assurance from the new state government is being seen as a fresh push for the project, which aims to attract global talent and position Odisha as a hub for higher education and research.
