Two Tigers from Tadoba Identified for Relocation to Odisha’s Similipal Reserve
In a bid to bolster the tiger population at the Simlipal Tiger Reserve (STR) in Odisha, authorities have identified two tigers from Maharashtra’s Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) for relocation. The process to capture the big cats has already begun, an official confirmed on Tuesday.
The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) has approved the translocation plan, which aims to strengthen conservation efforts at STR, located in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district. Dr. Jitendra Ramgaokar, Field Director of TATR, said the relocation is part of a broader strategy to improve genetic diversity and sustain tiger populations in Odisha.
This relocation marks a significant step in wildlife conservation collaboration between states. The tigers will soon be transported under strict monitoring protocols to their new habitat in Simlipal.
