Cyclone Panic Triggers Surge in Vegetable Prices Across Odisha

As the threat of an impending cyclone looms over Odisha, vegetable prices have skyrocketed across the state, with consumers resorting to panic buying. Traders reported a sharp increase in the prices of essential vegetables, including potatoes and onions, as people rushed to stock up ahead of the anticipated storm.

At Cuttack’s Chhatra Bazaar, one of the largest vegetable markets in Odisha, the price of potatoes surged from ₹30 to ₹50 per kilogram on Tuesday. Similarly, onion prices spiked to ₹60 per kilogram from the previous ₹40.

In Bhubaneswar, tomatoes are now selling for ₹80 to ₹100 per kilogram as the demand outpaces supply amid cyclone preparations.

Traders expect prices to remain high until the situation stabilizes, urging consumers to avoid overbuying and panic purchasing. The situation is being closely monitored by local authorities.
