Tigress Translocated from Maharashtra’s TATR to Similipal Tiger Reserve in Odisha
In a significant conservation effort, a tigress from Maharashtra’s Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) was successfully translocated to the Similipal Tiger Reserve in Odisha on Saturday, as approved by the Union Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change.
Officials from Similipal had formally requested the transfer of a tiger and a tigress to bolster the population in their reserve. Following this request, TATR received the green light to translocate two big cats.
A specialized team of 25 personnel from both TATR and Similipal conducted a thorough assessment of the movement patterns of the big cats. They successfully captured tigress T-158, a three-year-old, after tranquilizing her in the Navegaon area.
This translocation aims to enhance genetic diversity and support the growth of the tiger population in Similipal, contributing to ongoing conservation efforts in the region. Forest department officials expressed optimism about the tigress adapting well to her new habitat and contributing to the local ecosystem.
