Cyclone Dana Aftermath: Odisha Prioritizes Restoration Amid Flash Floods in Balasore

Following a successful effort to manage Cyclone Dana with a zero-casualty objective, the Odisha government has shifted its focus to extensive restoration work in affected areas. The cyclone, which made landfall on Friday, has led to significant damage to agricultural lands, thatched homes, and public infrastructure.

Although Cyclone Dana weakened into a low-pressure system over northern Odisha, the remnants of the storm continue to pose challenges, particularly flash floods in the Balasore region, where residents face flooding and associated disruptions. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) announced at 6:30 pm on Saturday that the well-marked low-pressure system over northern Odisha is expected to weaken within the next 12 hours, easing the weather conditions in the region.

The Odisha government is deploying resources swiftly to restore normalcy, with teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF), and various local agencies already on the ground. Officials report that restoring essential services, clearing blocked roads, and providing aid to those affected by the flash floods are the immediate priorities.

In a statement, the government noted, “Our efforts will continue to ensure all assistance reaches those affected as soon as possible. We are committed to restoring infrastructure and supporting the recovery of damaged crops and homes.”
