Sensex Falls Below 80k on Tariff Jitters

Sensex Slips Below 80,000 on Tariff Worries, FII Outflows

Equity markets ended sharply lower on Friday as investor sentiment weakened amid concerns over the impact of additional US tariffs and persistent foreign fund outflows.

The benchmark 30-share BSE Sensex dropped 765.47 points, or 0.95%, to close at 79,857.79, slipping below the 80,000 mark. During intraday trade, it fell as much as 847.42 points, or 1.05%, to touch 79,775.84.

Heavy losses in index majors such as Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank, and Bharti Airtel weighed on the market. Traders said global uncertainty and sustained selling by foreign institutional investors (FIIs) intensified the decline.

Analysts noted that the latest tariff announcements from the US have triggered fears of slower global trade growth, prompting risk-averse moves across emerging markets.
