John Abraham Builds Legacy Through Geopolitical Films

John Abraham Shifts Focus from Glam Roles to Geopolitical Cinema
From his early days as Bollywood’s on-screen heartthrob in films like Jism and Dostana to his current reputation for thought-driven cinema, John Abraham says his career has taken a deliberate turn towards building a meaningful legacy.
The actor-producer, known for his fitness and action roles, now devotes hours to staying informed about global affairs, with a special interest in geopolitics. This intellectual curiosity has influenced his film choices, steering him towards stories that intertwine commerce with pressing political and social issues.
His notable projects in this space include Madras Cafe, Parmanu, The Diplomat, and his upcoming release Tehran. These films, Abraham says, aim to entertain while sparking conversations about issues that impact India.
“It’s important now to build a legacy around the kind of films I’m doing and to be known for them,” Abraham told PTI. “Earlier, I didn’t understand what the audience felt about me… But when I travel and meet people, they say, ‘Oh, John, we love The Diplomat. Oh, we love Madras Cafe.’ That’s when you realise you’ve slowly started creating a story for yourself.”
Industry watchers note that Abraham’s evolving brand is carving a niche in Bollywood—balancing box office appeal with substance-driven storytelling.
