Rahman’s Daughters Defend Him Amid Row

Rahman’s daughters back him amid remark row

Daughters of Oscar-winning composer A R Rahman, Raheema and Khatija, on Sunday shared a post in support of their father after he found himself at the centre of a controversy over his remarks on the decline of work from Bollywood.

In a recent interview with BBC Asian Network, Rahman said the volume of his assignments in the Hindi film industry had reduced over the past eight years and hinted that it could be linked to a “communal thing”. He also spoke about shifting power structures in the industry, claiming that creative control had moved away from artists.

The comments triggered a sharp debate on social media and within entertainment circles, with several critics questioning the basis of the composer’s observation.

Amid the backlash, Rahman issued a clarification, stating that his words were misunderstood and that he never intended to “cause pain” or target any community. He reiterated his commitment to music and inclusivity.

Raheema and Khatija’s message expressed solidarity with their father, praising his integrity and lifelong dedication to harmony through music, as supporters and industry colleagues rallied behind the celebrated composer.
