PM Modi greets nation on Makar Sankranti

Prime Minister extends greetings on Makar Sankranti, highlights cultural and spiritual significance
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday extended warm greetings to citizens across the country on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti, describing the festival as a reflection of India’s rich cultural heritage and traditions.
In his message, the Prime Minister said Makar Sankranti symbolises harmony, prosperity and the spirit of togetherness. He expressed hope that the sweetness of til and gur would bring joy, success and happiness into everyone’s lives, while invoking the blessings of Surya Dev for the welfare of the nation.
Shri Modi also shared a Sanskrit Subhashitam highlighting the spiritual significance of the festival and the importance of the sun’s northward journey (Uttarayan), which is considered highly auspicious in Indian tradition.
In separate posts on X, the Prime Minister wrote in Hindi, extending his wishes to all citizens and noting that Makar Sankranti is celebrated across the country in diverse ways, in keeping with local customs and traditions. He prayed for the happiness, good fortune and good health of all on the sacred occasion.
Makar Sankranti marks the transition of the Sun into the zodiac sign of Capricorn (Makara) and is celebrated in different forms across India, including Pongal, Magh Bihu and Uttarayan, signifying renewal, positivity and new beginnings.
