PM Greets Nation on Somnath Parv

PM Extends Greetings on Commencement of Somnath Swabhiman Parv
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday extended greetings to the nation on the commencement of Somnath Swabhiman Parv, recalling the enduring civilisational spirit and unwavering faith that has kept the Somnath Temple alive in the hearts of millions for over a thousand years.
The Prime Minister noted that Somnath faced its first attack in January 1026 and endured repeated assaults in the centuries that followed. Despite these challenges, he said, the eternal faith of devotees and the resilience of Bharat’s civilisation ensured that the temple was rebuilt time and again. He described Somnath Swabhiman Parv as an occasion to remember the countless sons and daughters of the nation who never compromised with their principles and cultural ethos, even in the most difficult times.
Sharing posts on X, Shri Modi highlighted that the attacks on Somnath could not diminish the faith of millions nor break the civilisational resolve that repeatedly restored the shrine. He also shared glimpses from his earlier visits to Somnath and invited citizens to participate in the celebrations by sharing their own memories using the hashtag #SomnathSwabhimanParv.
Recalling a programme held at Somnath on October 31, 2001, the Prime Minister said the event marked 50 years since the rebuilt Somnath Temple reopened in 1951 in the presence of then President Dr. Rajendra Prasad. He highlighted the pivotal role played by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, K M Munshi and other leaders in the reconstruction of the temple. The 2001 programme, which also coincided with the 125th birth anniversary of Sardar Patel, was attended by then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Home Minister L K Advani and several other dignitaries.
Looking ahead, Shri Modi underscored that 2026 marks 75 years since the historic ceremony of 1951, when the reconstructed Somnath Temple was rededicated to the nation. He said the milestone symbolises not just the rebuilding of a temple, but the indomitable spirit of India’s civilisation that continues to inspire generations.
The Prime Minister also shared a Sanskrit verse on the occasion, praying for the welfare and well-being of all citizens under the blessings of Shri Somnath Mahadev.
