Odisha to provide skill training migrants

Odisha Government to Provide Skill Training for Migrant Workers

The Odisha government has decided to impart skill training to people vulnerable to migration in order to curb distress migration and enhance livelihood opportunities, an official release said on Tuesday.

The decision was taken at the third meeting of the high-level task force on Distress Migration, chaired by Deputy Chief Minister K.V. Singh Deo on Monday.

The meeting was informed that migration from the state has reduced to some extent, thanks to initiatives such as the provision of input assistance of ₹800 per quintal to farmers during both kharif and rabi seasons.

Officials said the proposed skill development programmes will be tailored to the needs of vulnerable communities in migration-prone districts, aiming to create sustainable livelihood options within the state itself.

The government hopes the twin approach of agricultural support and skill training will significantly curb distress migration while improving the socio-economic conditions of rural households.
