Modi Receives Cyprus’ Highest Civilian Honour

PM Modi Conferred ‘Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III’ by Cyprus President

New Delhi, June 16, 2025: In a moment of diplomatic significance, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred with the prestigious Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III, Cyprus’s highest civilian honour, by President Nikos Christodoulides in Nicosia on Monday.

Accepting the award on behalf of 1.4 billion Indians, Prime Minister Modi expressed deep gratitude to the President, the Government, and the people of Cyprus. He described the honour as a tribute to the enduring and friendly relations between India and Cyprus, founded on mutual trust, shared democratic values, and a commitment to global peace.

“This recognition is not just for me, but for the spirit of India — its ancient philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, the idea that the world is one family,” said the Prime Minister, dedicating the award to India’s global vision of harmony and cooperation.

The Order of Makarios III is named after Cyprus’s first President and is awarded for exceptional service to the country. The conferring of this award marks a new chapter in India-Cyprus relations, reinforcing a shared commitment to peace, sovereignty, security, and prosperity.

Prime Minister Modi affirmed that the honour would further strengthen the bilateral partnership, especially in areas such as trade, technology, education, and cultural exchange.

This high-level recognition underscores the growing stature of India on the global stage and reaffirms its role as a constructive force in international diplomacy.
