Union Minister Jual Oram Reviews Tribal Ministry’s Preparations for 10th International Day of Yoga

New Delhi, June 16, 2025: Union Minister of Tribal Affairs, Shri Jual Oram, chaired a high-level review meeting in New Delhi on Monday to assess the Ministry’s preparedness for celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the International Day of Yoga, scheduled for June 21, 2025. The celebration will be a key feature of the ongoing Dharti Aaba Janbhagidari Abhiyan, a nationwide awareness and benefit saturation campaign taking place from June 15–30.

Emphasizing the inclusive and community-driven nature of this year’s celebrations, Shri Oram highlighted the Ministry’s focus on showcasing the synergy between traditional tribal wellness practices and modern yoga techniques. “Yoga is not just physical exercise—it is a path to harmony between the body, mind, and spirit,” said the Minister. “Tribal communities, with their deep-rooted connection to nature and traditional healing, reflect this philosophy in their way of life.”

The Minister revealed that over 1.4 lakh students from 477 Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs), along with more than 10 lakh tribal citizens across India, are expected to actively participate in yoga demonstrations, wellness sessions, and awareness drives leading up to Yoga Day.

Shri Oram stressed the importance of effective convergence with the Ministries of AYUSH, State Tribal Welfare Departments, Tribal Research Institutes, TRIFED, NSTFDC, EMRSs, Ashram Schools, and other stakeholders to ensure the success of the celebrations. He also called for the strategic use of digital platforms, community radio, and local tribal languages to ensure outreach and mobilization at the grassroots level.

Senior officials and the Secretary of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs were present during the review meeting, reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to promoting holistic health, cultural pride, and empowerment of tribal communities across the country.

The upcoming International Day of Yoga is expected to serve as a unique platform for bridging indigenous wellness wisdom with the broader goals of national health and well-being.
