Koneru Humpy Clinches Historic Second World Rapid Chess Title

New York, December 28: Indian chess maestro Koneru Humpy made history by winning her second World Rapid Chess Championship title, defeating Indonesia’s Irene Sukandar in the final round on Sunday.

Humpy, who first claimed the title in 2019 in Georgia, becomes only the second woman to achieve this feat twice, following China’s Ju Wenjun.

The 37-year-old Indian chess No. 1 delivered an impressive performance throughout the tournament, finishing with 8.5 points out of a possible 11, solidifying her legacy as one of the sport’s greats.
