Sakti (Chhattisgarh), Apr 14: At least 11 workers lost their lives and 22 others sustained injuries after a boiler-related explosion at a power plant operated by Vedanta Ltd in Chhattisgarh’s Sakti district on Tuesday, police officials confirmed.

The incident occurred in the afternoon at the plant located in Singhitarai village, when a tube connected to a boiler reportedly exploded, triggering a powerful blast within the facility. The impact of the explosion caused severe casualties among workers present at the site.

Sakti Superintendent of Police Prafull Thakur stated that emergency teams were immediately rushed to the spot, and rescue operations were launched to evacuate the injured and recover victims trapped in the debris.

The injured workers were taken to nearby hospitals, with several reported to be in critical condition. Authorities have not yet determined the exact cause of the explosion, and an investigation is currently underway.

Senior district officials and representatives from Vedanta Ltd have reached the site to assess the situation. Efforts are ongoing to provide medical assistance to the injured and support to the families of those who lost their lives.

The tragic incident has raised concerns over industrial safety standards, with officials expected to review protocols and compliance measures at the plant.
