Jharsuguda records Odisha’s highest summer temperature

Jharsuguda Sizzles at 43.3°C as Heatwave Grips Odisha

Odisha continued to reel under intense heatwave conditions on Sunday, with Jharsuguda recording the highest temperature in the state at a scorching 43.3 degrees Celsius, according to the India Meteorological Department.

The IMD, in its evening bulletin, reported that at least 14 locations across the state experienced maximum temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius or above, highlighting the widespread severity of the heatwave.

Titlagarh followed closely behind Jharsuguda, registering 43 degrees Celsius, while Sonepur recorded 42.3 degrees Celsius. Bhawanipatna and Sambalpur also witnessed extreme conditions, with both towns reporting 42 degrees Celsius.

The prolonged spell of high temperatures has raised concerns over public health and water scarcity in several districts. Authorities have advised residents to avoid exposure to direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated, and take necessary precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses.

With no immediate relief in sight, the IMD has indicated that heatwave conditions are likely to persist in parts of the state over the coming days, urging local administrations to remain on alert.
