India Responds to Pakistan’s Military Provocation

India Responds Proportionately to Pakistani Provocation; Operation SINDOOR Continues with Precision Strikes

In a strong and calibrated response to Pakistani aggression, the Government of India has confirmed that its Armed Forces conducted proportionate strikes on Pakistani military assets following attempted drone and missile attacks on multiple Indian military installations during the night of 7–8 May 2025.

According to a press release issued by the Press Information Bureau, the Indian response came after Pakistan launched an unprovoked offensive targeting key military locations across Northern and Western India. The targeted areas included Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj. However, these attacks were effectively neutralised by India’s Integrated Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Grid and advanced Air Defence mechanisms.

Debris recovered from several locations has confirmed Pakistan’s role in the attempted escalation.

In a measured counterstrike on the morning of 8 May, Indian Armed Forces targeted and neutralised Pakistani Air Defence Radars and systems at several locations, including one in Lahore. Officials noted that India’s actions were in line with its stated intent of remaining non-escalatory but firm, with operations carried out in the same domain and intensity as Pakistan’s.

The situation along the Line of Control (LoC) remains tense, with Pakistan intensifying its unprovoked shelling using mortars and heavy artillery in areas including Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar, and Rajouri in Jammu and Kashmir. Tragically, 16 civilians—including three women and five children—have lost their lives as a result of the bombardment.

India has responded to the LoC aggression to silence Pakistani fire and prevent further loss of innocent lives. The Armed Forces reiterated their commitment to non-escalation, contingent on reciprocal restraint from Pakistan.

Operation SINDOOR, launched as a focused and measured military response earlier this week, continues as India upholds its resolve to defend its territory and protect its citizens while avoiding unnecessary escalation.
