Indian Army Launches ‘Operation Brahma’ to Aid Myanmar Earthquake Victims

In a swift and decisive humanitarian response, the Indian Army has launched ‘Operation Brahma’ to provide medical assistance to victims of the devastating earthquake that struck Myanmar on 28th March 2025.

A 118-member medical task force from the elite Shatrujeet Brigade Medical Responders, led by Lieutenant Colonel Jagneet Gill, is set to be deployed to Myanmar along with essential medical equipment and supplies. The Airborne Angels Task Force, known for its expertise in disaster response, is trained to provide advanced medical and surgical care in crisis zones.

Setting Up a 60-Bed Medical Treatment Centre

As part of the mission, the Indian Army will establish a 60-bed Medical Treatment Centre to deliver urgent medical care. The facility will be equipped to handle:
Trauma cases and emergency surgeries
Critical medical treatments
Support for the overwhelmed local healthcare system

India’s Commitment to Regional Humanitarian Assistance

Operation Brahma highlights India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy and the ethos of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (the world is one family). The Indian Army has a longstanding tradition of extending humanitarian aid to friendly nations, reinforcing India’s role as a first responder in regional crises.

The mission has been coordinated closely with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Myanmar authorities to ensure seamless deployment and effective relief operations.

With Operation Brahma, India reaffirms its unwavering support for Myanmar in this time of need, standing in solidarity with its people as they recover from the disaster.
