Diarrhea Outbreak in Odisha’s Jajpur: 1 Dead, 300 Fall Ill
A sudden outbreak of diarrhea in Odisha’s Jajpur district has claimed one life and left over 300 people ill, health officials confirmed on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as 34-year-old Sanat Patra, a resident of Mayurbhanj district. He was working as a contract laborer at an industrial plant in Kalinga Nagar and had been admitted to the Danagadi Community Health Centre (CHC) earlier in the day, said Jajpur Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Dr. Prakash Chandra Bal.
According to officials, the majority of affected individuals are showing symptoms such as dehydration, vomiting, and loose motion. Medical teams have been deployed to the affected areas and are monitoring the situation closely.
“Necessary treatment facilities and medicines have been arranged at local health centres. We are also conducting water quality checks and awareness drives to prevent further spread,” said Dr. Bal.
Health authorities suspect contaminated water could be the cause of the outbreak and have begun an investigation to trace the source. Local administration has urged residents to boil drinking water and maintain hygiene as a precautionary measure.
The situation remains under control, officials said, with no new fatalities reported so far.
