72nd Meeting of Network Planning Group Under PM GatiShakti Assesses Key Infrastructure Projects

The 72nd meeting of the Network Planning Group (NPG), chaired by Shri Rajeev Singh Thakur, Additional Secretary of DPIIT, convened in New Delhi on June 12, 2024, to evaluate pivotal infrastructure projects aligned with the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan (NMP).

The meeting spotlighted three major projects across vital sectors:

  1. National Highway Project in Jammu & Kashmir: Under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), the project focuses on the construction and upgrade of a 51-Km section of NH-701 from Rafiabad to Chamkot. Estimated at INR 1,405 Crores, it includes greenfield and brownfield developments aimed at enhancing connectivity for regions like Kupwara and Chowkibal, thereby bolstering socio-economic conditions and logistical support.
  2. Gudur-Renigunta Third Rail Line in Andhra Pradesh: Managed by the Ministry of Railways (MoR), this project involves an 83.17 km third rail line between Gudur and Renigunta stations, with an investment of INR 884 Crores. It seeks to boost capacity for passenger and cargo movement, integrating advanced infrastructure to foster regional economic growth.
  3. Pune Metro Line Extension in Maharashtra: The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) plans to extend the Pune metro corridor from Vanaz to Ramwadi, encompassing 12.75 km at a cost of INR 3,757 Crores. This expansion aims to connect central Pune with burgeoning suburbs, easing travel, reducing congestion, and enhancing public transport accessibility.

These projects, evaluated for their alignment with PM GatiShakti NMP principles, emphasize socio-economic benefits, improved connectivity, and enhanced efficiency in transportation and logistics networks. They are poised to significantly contribute to regional development and ease of living across affected areas.

The NPG meeting underscores India’s commitment to robust infrastructure development, integrating diverse transport modes to foster national progress and infrastructure resilience.
