Women’s Health Drive Makes Odisha National-Leader

Odisha Emerges as National Frontrunner in Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan

Bhubaneswar, Oct 4 : Odisha has emerged as one of the leading states in the Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan (SNSPA), setting benchmarks in women-centric healthcare outreach and community participation. The state ranked 4th nationally in overall performance, with some of the highest female participation rates in the country.

During the fortnight-long campaign held between September 17 and October 2, Odisha organized more than 71,132 health camps across Arogya Mandirs, primary health centres, and community health centres in both rural and urban areas. Over 1.04 crore women availed free health check-ups, the second highest in India.

The campaign included large-scale preventive screenings such as 12 lakh hypertension tests, 12.2 lakh diabetes screenings, 3.2 lakh oral cancer tests, 3.3 lakh breast cancer screenings, 40,000 cervical cancer checks, and counselling for 6.5 lakh adolescent girls on menstrual hygiene. In addition, 32,865 units of blood were collected through 523 voluntary blood donation camps.

According to the National Data Portal, Odisha’s achievements stood alongside top-performing states like Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan. While Madhya Pradesh led in sheer volume of camps and screenings, Odisha’s strength lay in its gender-sensitive outreach and adolescent health initiatives, placing it ahead of several larger states in cancer screenings and menstrual hygiene awareness.

Senior health officials attributed the success to decentralised planning, district-level ownership, digital tools for camp tracking, and the active participation of ASHA workers and women’s self-help groups.

With its inclusive model of preventive healthcare, Odisha has set a replicable example for deepening community engagement and strengthening women’s health as a foundation for family and societal well-being.
