Vice-President Addresses Cadets at Rashtriya Indian Military College, Dehradun
Dehradun, September 1, 2024: The Vice-President of India delivered an inspiring address at the Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC) in Dehradun today, sharing personal anecdotes and emphasizing the importance of discipline, resilience, and national service with the young cadets. Reflecting on his journey from Sainik School, Chittorgarh, the Vice-President highlighted how his formative years at a military institution shaped his life and career.
Drawing a connection between his own experiences and those of the cadets, the Vice-President expressed gratitude to his alma mater and stressed the enduring bond that students form with their institutions. “All that I am today is because of my parents, grandparents, my teachers, and, more importantly, my alma mater,” he remarked.
The Vice-President also emphasized the significance of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative, urging the Commandant and students to actively participate in this tree-planting campaign aimed at combating climate change. He lauded the initiative as a vital step in environmental preservation, especially given the current global climate challenges.
During his address, the Vice-President acknowledged the historic role of RIMC in shaping the future leaders of India, particularly in the defence services. He highlighted the institution’s contribution to nurturing patriots and dedicated soldiers, mentioning notable alumni such as the late General Bipin Rawat, India’s first Chief of Defence Staff.
The Vice-President also celebrated the inclusion of girl students in Sainik and Military Schools, noting it as a reflection of India’s commitment to gender equality. He praised the country’s progress in empowering women, pointing to their significant achievements in various fields, including aviation, space missions, and defence.
Reflecting on India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation by 2047, the Vice-President urged the cadets to embody the values of courage, initiative, and leadership. He encouraged them to view challenges as opportunities for growth and to approach life’s battles with strength and wisdom.
In his concluding remarks, the Vice-President invoked the words of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, urging the cadets to lead lives of self-control and sacrifice, and to always keep the nation’s interest foremost. “Serve the country with pride and fearlessness! Bharat-Mata beckons you. The nation’s future rests on your shoulders,” he exhorted the cadets.
The event was attended by dignitaries, including the Hon’ble Governor of Uttarakhand, Lt Gen Gurmeet Singh, and the Commandant of RIMC. The Vice-President’s address resonated with the young cadets, who were reminded of the significant role they will play in the future of the nation.
