Renowned Makeup Artist Vikram Gaikwad Passes Away at 61
National award-winning makeup artist Vikram Gaikwad, a revered name in the Indian film industry, passed away on Saturday morning at the age of 61. Gaikwad, known for his transformative work in critically acclaimed films such as 83, Uri: The Surgical Strike, and Ponniyin Selvan, breathed his last at Hiranandani Hospital in Powai, Mumbai.
According to his younger brother, Dr. Prasanna Paranjpe, Gaikwad had been admitted to the hospital three days ago due to issues related to blood pressure. “He was quite well when he was admitted. We were not expecting that he would pass away so soon,” he said. Gaikwad passed away around 8:30 AM after his blood pressure continued to fall and doctors were unable to revive him.
Gaikwad’s contribution to Indian cinema was widely recognized and celebrated. Over his illustrious career, he won multiple National Film Awards for Best Makeup and was highly regarded for his skill in transforming actors to authentically portray real-life characters.
His passing marks a significant loss for the film fraternity. Colleagues and celebrities from across the industry have expressed their condolences, remembering him as a humble genius who brought life to the characters behind the scenes.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family soon
