Trader fined Rs 6.29 lakh for GST violations

A trader in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir has been fined Rs 6.29 lakh for violating Goods and Services Tax (GST) norms, officials from the Sales Tax Department said on Saturday.

The enforcement action was taken after the trader was caught attempting to transport goods without proper documentation, in clear violation of GST regulations.

According to officials, the trader had been under surveillance for nearly 12 days following specific intelligence inputs from reliable sources. The interception was carried out successfully with the help of RFID tracking technology, which enabled authorities to monitor the movement of goods in real time.

The department said such strict measures are part of ongoing efforts to curb tax evasion and ensure compliance with GST laws across the region.
