Sheetal Devi Creates History, Joins Able-Bodied Team

Armless World Champion Sheetal Devi Makes History, Joins Able-Bodied Indian Archery Team
A year after expressing her dream on Kaun Banega Crorepati to compete alongside able-bodied athletes, para-archer Sheetal Devi has turned that wish into reality. The world compound champion from Jammu and Kashmir, born without arms, has been selected for the Indian able-bodied junior archery team for the upcoming Asia Cup Stage 3 in Jeddah.
This remarkable milestone makes Sheetal the first para-athlete from India to be chosen for an able-bodied national squad — a groundbreaking moment for Indian sports.
Speaking about her achievement, Sheetal said with a smile, “Jo maanga tha, woh mil gaya” (“What I wished for, I’ve received”). Her inclusion in the team marks another incredible chapter in a career already filled with resilience and record-breaking performances.
Last year, Sheetal captured the world’s attention by winning gold at the World Archery Para Championships, earning global praise for her skill, determination, and indomitable spirit. Competing without arms, she shoots using her feet and shoulders — an extraordinary technique that has redefined possibilities in the sport.
Coaches and officials hailed her selection as a historic leap for inclusivity in Indian sports, symbolizing that true talent knows no physical boundaries.
Sheetal’s journey from a para world champion to representing India among able-bodied athletes stands as a powerful message of courage and self-belief — inspiring millions across the nation.
