Shastri: Rohit, Kohli need form

Shastri on Rohit, Kohli’s 2027 World Cup Hopes: Form, Fitness, Hunger Key

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has said that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s chances of featuring in the 2027 ODI World Cup depend on their form, fitness, and hunger. He added that the upcoming ODI series against Australia will be a crucial test for both players.

The 63-year-old, who served as India’s coach from 2017 to 2021, emphasised that Kohli and Rohit need a strong performance in the three-match series, starting October 19 in Perth, to solidify their spots in the team.

“That’s why they’re here (playing the ODI series against Australia),” Shastri said during the launch of Kayo Sport’s Summer of Cricket, as quoted by cricket.com.au.

Both stalwarts, central to India’s batting line-up, have been named in the squad for the series, which will serve as a benchmark for assessing their readiness and form ahead of future international commitments, including the 2027 World Cup.

Shastri stressed that consistent performances, maintaining fitness, and sustained motivation will be key factors in determining whether the veteran duo can continue to contribute at the highest level.
