Shaktikanta Das Appointed as Principal Secretary-2 to PM Modi

New Delhi, Feb 22 – Former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das has been appointed as the Principal Secretary-2 to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as per a government notification issued on Saturday.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet stated that Das’s appointment will be co-terminus with effect from the day he assumes office.

Das, a former Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1980-batch from the Tamil Nadu cadre, served as the RBI Governor for six years, including a three-year extension granted during his tenure. He took charge as the central bank’s chief in December 2018, steering India’s monetary policy through crucial economic phases.

Dr. PK Mishra has been serving as the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister since September 11, 2019. With Das’s appointment, he will now serve as Principal Secretary-2 to the PM.

In another key administrative decision, the tenure of NITI Aayog’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) BVR Subrahmanyam has been extended by a year, starting from February 24, 2025. Subrahmanyam, a retired IAS officer of the 1987 batch, was appointed as the CEO of NITI Aayog for a two-year term in February 2023.

These appointments reflect the government’s focus on strengthening its leadership team with experienced bureaucrats in key positions.
