Ranveer apologises after Kantara scene backlash

Ranveer Singh Apologises to Rishab Shetty for Mimicking ‘Kantara’ Scene at IFFI

Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh has issued a public apology to filmmaker-actor Rishab Shetty after a video of him mimicking a scene from “Kantara: A Legend Chapter-1” at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) drew criticism online.

The incident occurred during the festival’s closing ceremony held in Goa on November 28, where both actors were present. In a light-hearted moment, Singh stuck his tongue out while imitating a sequence from Shetty’s film. Once the clip circulated on social media, several users accused the actor of showing disrespect and behaving insensitively.

Responding to the backlash, Singh clarified that he had no intention of hurting anyone’s sentiments and expressed regret over how the gesture was perceived. “I am sorry if it came across in a way I didn’t intend. I deeply respect Rishab and his work,” he reportedly said.

Rishab Shetty, known for creating the widely acclaimed “Kantara” franchise rooted in coastal Karnataka’s traditions, has not issued a formal response yet.

The brief incident added an unexpected controversy to IFFI’s closing ceremony, which otherwise celebrated cinema from across the world.
