President of India Graces Convocation Ceremony of Panjab University

The President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, graced the convocation ceremony of Panjab University in Chandigarh today, highlighting the institution’s remarkable contributions to academia, research, sports, and cultural development.
Addressing the gathering, President Murmu praised Panjab University’s 140-year legacy as a major center of higher education. She lauded its achievements, particularly in sports, noting that the university has won the prestigious Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy 17 times. She also acknowledged the outstanding performances of university students Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh, who brought glory to India by winning medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The President commended the university for fostering academia-industry collaboration, urging policymakers to further strengthen these linkages and focus on future-ready, application-based education. She emphasized the importance of equipping students with advanced skills and a positive mindset to navigate an increasingly competitive world.
“It is essential for students to continuously acquire and develop knowledge of emerging technologies and use them effectively to succeed,” she remarked.
Encouraging students to take pride in their education at Panjab University, she reminded them of the institution’s legacy, which has produced eminent personalities, including Presidents, Prime Ministers, Nobel laureates, and distinguished leaders. She urged students to uphold this rich tradition by making meaningful contributions to society, the nation, and the world.
