President Droupadi Murmu Extends Festive Greetings on Lohri, Makar Sankranti, Pongal, and Magh Bihu

New Delhi, Jan 12 : President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, has extended her heartfelt greetings to fellow citizens on the auspicious occasions of Lohri, Makar Sankranti, Pongal, and Magh Bihu. These festivals, celebrated on January 13 and 14, mark significant cultural and agricultural traditions across the country.

In her message, President Murmu said, “On the auspicious occasion of Lohri, Makar Sankranti, Pongal and Magh Bihu festivals, I extend heartfelt greetings to all Indians living in the country and abroad.”

Highlighting the cultural importance of these festivals, she described them as symbols of India’s rich heritage, promoting joy and enthusiasm. President Murmu emphasized the harmonious relationship these festivals reflect between humanity and nature. She noted that they are celebrated in diverse forms across the regions of India, with rituals such as taking a holy dip in sacred rivers and performing acts of charity being integral to their observance.

The President also expressed gratitude to farmers, recognizing their tireless efforts in feeding the nation. “Through these festivals which are also associated with crops, we express our gratitude to hardworking farmers, who work tirelessly to feed the nation,” she said.

President Murmu concluded her message by wishing happiness and prosperity for all. She encouraged citizens to work collectively with renewed energy to make India a developed nation.

Lohri, Makar Sankranti, Pongal, and Magh Bihu hold special significance in India’s cultural fabric, marking the harvest season and ushering in the spirit of gratitude and celebration.
