Odisha to Implement Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY Scheme in the State

Bhubaneswar, January 13, 2025 – In a significant move towards enhancing healthcare access in the state, the Odisha government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Health Authority (NHA) for the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY).

The agreement was formalized on Monday at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, between the CEO of the National Health Authority and the Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Odisha Department of Health & Family Welfare. The signing ceremony was graced by Union Health and Family Welfare Minister J.P. Nadda, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, and other distinguished officials.

The event also witnessed the presence of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Jual Oram, Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw, Deputy Chief Minister of Odisha Kanak Vardhan Singhdeo, and Odisha Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling.

Under the Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY scheme, Odisha will provide healthcare coverage to millions of families across the state, aiming to reduce financial barriers to quality healthcare. The initiative will provide free health insurance, covering hospitalization costs for secondary and tertiary care services for eligible families. This marks a major step towards improving healthcare infrastructure and accessibility for the people of Odisha, especially in rural and underserved areas.

The MoU signing is expected to benefit over 70 million people in the state, ensuring a stronger and more inclusive healthcare system. The implementation of this flagship scheme is seen as a crucial move in the state’s efforts to achieve universal health coverage and improve the overall well-being of its residents.
