ONM formed, claims Biju Patnaik legacy

Odisha Nagarika Manch Formed, Claims Biju Legacy

Bhubaneswar, Apr 17: A group of former associates and followers of Biju Patnaik on Friday announced the formation of the ‘Odisha Nagarika Manch’ (ONM), asserting that the platform will uphold and promote the late leader’s ideology and vision for the state.

The announcement was made on the occasion of Patnaik’s 29th death anniversary, with several senior political figures and social activists—who had worked closely with him over the years—coming together under one banner. The members claimed that ONM represents the “true ideological legacy” of the legendary leader, known for his contributions to Odisha’s development and national politics.

Speaking at the gathering, the organisers emphasised that the platform would focus on public welfare, regional development, and the empowerment of common citizens, in line with Patnaik’s principles. They also indicated that ONM would act as a socio-political forum to raise issues concerning governance, transparency, and people-centric policies.

Biju Patnaik, who served as the Chief Minister of Odisha from 1961 to 1963 and again from 1990 to 1995, remains a towering figure in the state’s political history. His legacy continues to influence various political and social movements in Odisha.

The formation of ONM is being seen as a fresh attempt by his followers to revive and reinterpret his ideals in the current political landscape, although its future role and impact remain to be seen.
