Algerian University Confers Honorary Doctorate on President Droupadi Murmu
The Scientific and Technological Hub, Martyr Ihaddaden Abdelhafid University in Algeria awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Political Science to the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, in a ceremony held at Sidi Abdellah today. The degree was conferred in recognition of her advocacy for promoting science and knowledge across all social groups in India.
In her acceptance speech, President Murmu expressed that the honor was more for India as a nation than for her personally. She thanked the university for the recognition and emphasized the role of education in individual empowerment and national development. She highlighted India’s commitment to transforming its education system through the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which fosters the development of enlightened citizens and promotes India’s transition into a ‘Knowledge Economy.’
President Murmu also encouraged Algerian students and institutions to take advantage of India’s affordable, high-quality education system, which offers various scholarships and fellowships, especially for African students. She reiterated her optimism that the youth of India and Algeria would enhance bilateral relations, serving as a bridge for deeper cultural and educational ties.
The President underscored that India and Algeria share untapped potential in their relationship and voiced confidence that future generations would unlock it.
