TPSODL Boosts Rooftop Solar Adoption Drive

TPSODL Intensifies Rooftop Solar Drive Across Southern Odisha
Bhubaneswar, May 16: TP Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL), a joint venture of Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, has intensified its rooftop solar promotion campaign across eight districts of southern Odisha under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s “Month of Solar” initiative.
As part of the campaign, TPSODL organised a stakeholder and vendor meet involving over 30 solar vendors, senior officials of the company, and representatives from the Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) to strengthen coordination and improve rooftop solar installation services for consumers.
The initiative is being carried out in Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Boudh, Rayagada, Koraput, Nabarangpur and Malkangiri districts.
According to TPSODL officials, the discussions focused on simplifying installation procedures, enhancing stakeholder coordination and encouraging wider adoption of rooftop solar systems under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSGMBY) and the ULA Model.
The company said rooftop solar systems are helping consumers lower electricity bills while promoting clean and sustainable energy use across the region.
Under the ULA Model, consumers can install a 1 kW rooftop solar system at a subsidised cost of Rs 1,875, making solar power more accessible and affordable for households.
TPSODL stated that it received 12,658 applications for rooftop solar installations during May alone. Of these, 1,253 applications were submitted under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, while 11,405 applications were received under the ULA Model.
Among the districts, Phulbani recorded the highest number of applications at 4,771, followed by Nabarangpur with 2,989 applications.
The company further informed that nearly 50,000 applications have so far been received across southern Odisha under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. Around 11,000 consumers have already installed rooftop solar systems in their homes.
TPSODL also stated that 6,391 consumers have received both Central Financial Assistance (CFA) and State Financial Assistance (SFA), boosting large-scale adoption of solar energy in the region.
TPSODL CEO Amit Kumar Garg said the “Month of Solar” campaign aims to increase public awareness and make rooftop solar adoption easier for consumers.
“Rooftop solar is not only helping consumers reduce electricity bills but also contributing towards a greener and energy-secure future for southern Odisha,” Garg said.
TPSODL said it will continue awareness and outreach activities across its operational areas to support the Government of India’s renewable energy goals and promote sustainable power generation.
