President Droupadi Murmu Graces Golden Jubilee Celebration of Shri Warana Women Cooperative Group
The President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, attended the golden jubilee celebration of the Shri Warana Women Cooperative Group at Warananagar, Kolhapur today. The event marked a significant milestone for the cooperative, which has been a pivotal force in empowering women and fostering economic growth in the region over the past 50 years.
In her address, President Murmu highlighted the vital role of cooperatives in harnessing the inherent strength of society. She emphasized that the principles of cooperation align closely with the values of justice, unity, and fraternity as enshrined in the Indian Constitution. She credited cooperative groups with playing a crucial role in making India the world’s largest milk producer, as well as contributing to various other sectors such as fertilizers, cotton, handloom, housing, edible oil, and sugar.
However, the President also pointed out the challenges faced by many cooperatives, including issues of capital, governance, management, and participation. She urged these institutions to embrace technological advancements and professional management practices to remain relevant in the rapidly changing landscape. She emphasized the importance of involving youth in cooperatives, stating that they could bring in fresh perspectives and technological innovation, particularly in areas like organic farming, storage capacity building, and eco-tourism.
President Murmu stressed that the success of any cooperative lies in its connection with the common people, advocating for a democratic system and transparency within these institutions. She warned against cooperatives becoming tools for personal gain, which would undermine their core purpose.
Addressing the predominantly female audience, the President encouraged them to value education, adopt new technologies, prioritize environmental conservation, and support the needy.
