President Droupadi Murmu Attends 18th Convocation of MNIT Jaipur

President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, graced the 18th convocation ceremony of Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT) in Jaipur on September 18, 2024. The event celebrated the achievements of the graduating students and highlighted the institute’s role in advancing technical education and research in India.

In her address, President Murmu emphasized the pivotal role of National Institutes of Technology (NITs) in fostering quality technical education and producing skilled human resources. She noted that NITs are designated as ‘Institutions of National Importance’ due to their significant contributions to the country’s development.

The President praised MNIT for its innovative approach, particularly the establishment of the Innovation and Incubation Centre, which has supported approximately 125 start-ups and created new employment opportunities. She also highlighted the institute’s progress in the ‘Engineering’ category of the NIRF India Rankings 2024, where MNIT secured a position in the top 50. She expressed optimism that MNIT would continue to excel and aim for the top 10 institutes in the country.

Discussing the broader impact of technical education, President Murmu underscored the importance of NITs in addressing the challenges and seizing opportunities of the fourth industrial revolution. She lauded MNIT’s new Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering for adapting to contemporary technological demands.

A particular highlight of the ceremony was the impressive performance of female students, who won 12 out of 20 gold medals despite comprising only 29 percent of the graduating class. President Murmu stressed the importance of increasing female participation in research and development for both social and economic development.

Concluding her speech, President Murmu encouraged the graduates to leverage their acquired knowledge and skills to tackle future challenges and embrace emerging opportunities with confidence.
