PM to Inaugurate Swaminathan Centenary Conference

PM Modi to Inaugurate M.S. Swaminathan Centenary International Conference in New Delhi on August 7

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the M.S. Swaminathan Centenary International Conference on August 7 at 9 AM at ICAR-PUSA, New Delhi. The conference commemorates the birth centenary of renowned agricultural scientist Prof. M.S. Swaminathan, often hailed as the architect of India’s Green Revolution.

Organized under the theme “Evergreen Revolution: The Pathway to Biohappiness,” the event aims to further Prof. Swaminathan’s vision of sustainable agriculture, food security, and climate resilience. The conference will bring together leading scientists, policymakers, development professionals, and key stakeholders to deliberate on advancing the principles of the Evergreen Revolution—a movement dedicated to environmentally sustainable agricultural development.

Key focus areas of the conference include:

  • Sustainable management of biodiversity and natural resources
  • Agriculture for food and nutrition security
  • Building climate-resilient farming systems
  • Promoting equitable livelihoods through appropriate technology
  • Engaging youth, women, and marginalized communities in development processes

During the event, Prime Minister Modi will also present the inaugural M.S. Swaminathan Award for Food and Peace, an international honor jointly instituted by the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) and The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS). This award recognizes exceptional individuals from developing nations who have made impactful contributions in the areas of food security, climate justice, and peacebuilding through scientific innovation, policy initiatives, grassroots engagement, or capacity building.

The prestigious award underscores Prof. Swaminathan’s legacy of blending science with human development, especially for vulnerable and marginalized communities.

The conference is expected to set the course for a new era of inclusive, sustainable, and science-led agricultural development, in line with Prof. Swaminathan’s enduring vision of “biohappiness”—the well-being of people through harmony with nature.
