Odisha to Build 835 Model Schools

Odisha to Develop 835 Model Primary Schools with ₹7 Crore Each
In a major step towards strengthening foundational education, the Odisha government has announced plans to develop 835 model primary schools across the state, with each school receiving an investment of up to ₹7 crore.
The decision was made during a high-level review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday. According to the official statement, the initiative aims to enhance the quality of early education and infrastructure in the state.
“These model primary schools will serve as feeder institutions for high schools,” the government said, adding that the focus will be on creating child-friendly learning environments, equipped with modern classrooms, digital learning tools, libraries, playgrounds, and sanitation facilities.
The project is part of the government’s broader vision to improve access to quality education, especially in rural and underserved areas. Officials stated that the initiative will not only help in better retention of students but also lay a strong academic foundation.
The development of model schools is expected to begin in phases and will be monitored by the School and Mass Education Department. This move is seen as a key step toward achieving educational equity and supporting the goals of Viksit Odisha through a strong, future-ready schooling system.
