PM Modi Inaugurates Safran MRO Facility

PM Modi Inaugurates Safran Aircraft Engine Services India Facility, Boosts India’s Aviation MRO Ambitions
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the Safran Aircraft Engine Services India (SAESI) facility at the GMR Aerospace and Industrial Park – SEZ, Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad via video conferencing today. Addressing the occasion, the Prime Minister said the new facility marks a major step in establishing India as a global Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) hub.
Shri Modi highlighted that India’s aviation sector has grown at an unprecedented pace in recent years, becoming the third-largest domestic aviation market in the world. He underlined that with the rapid expansion of air travel, nearly 85 percent of MRO work was previously being done abroad, leading to higher costs and longer turnaround times. The SAESI facility, he said, will help reverse this trend, generate employment opportunities for youth, and strengthen India’s aerospace capabilities.
The Prime Minister emphasized that India is promoting “Design in India” across sectors and urged Safran to explore aircraft engine and component design within the country. He highlighted India’s reforms in FDI, ease of doing business, GST, labor codes, and other regulatory measures that have made the nation a trusted investment destination. “India regards investors not merely as investors but as co-creators in our journey towards a developed nation,” he stated.
Spread over 45,000 sq. m., the SAESI facility is dedicated to Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul of LEAP engines that power Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. With an initial investment of around ₹1,300 crore, it is designed to service up to 300 engines annually and will employ over 1,000 skilled Indian technicians and engineers by 2035. The state-of-the-art facility is a significant milestone for India’s aviation sector and a step towards self-reliance (Aatmanirbharta) in aerospace.
Chief Minister of Telangana Shri Revanth Reddy and Union Minister Shri K. Ram Mohan Naidu were among the dignitaries present.
Shri Modi concluded by congratulating Team Safran, stating, “We are dreaming big, doing bigger, and delivering best. Betting on India is the smartest business decision of this decade.”
