NTTM Unveils Flag, Defence Fibre Recycling

NTTM Launches India’s First Scientific Model for Dignified Recycling of National Flags and Defence Fibres
The National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM) of the Ministry of Textiles has introduced India’s first scientific and structured model for the dignified recycling of National Flags and defence-grade fibres. The project, implemented under the Atal Centre of Textile Recycling and Sustainability at IIT Delhi in Panipat, represents a major step in combining technology, innovation, and national purpose in the technical textiles sector.
As part of the initiative, the National Flag Recycling Initiative ensures that retired Tricolours are either preserved or responsibly repurposed without compromising their dignity, marking a historic first in India. The program aligns with the spirit of the HarGharTiranga campaign, integrating sustainability with patriotic values.
The Aramid Fibre Recycling Programme has developed cutting-edge solutions for managing high-performance aramid fibre waste, a critical material used in defence, aerospace, and protective textiles. Several technical textile industries have already adopted these innovations, highlighting the program’s successful translation of research into scalable, commercial applications.
The technologies will be showcased at a demonstration event in Panipat on 28 November 2025, hosted by the Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI). The event will bring together industry stakeholders and government representatives, underscoring NTTM’s pivotal role in driving innovation, sustainability, and industry integration in technical textiles.
This initiative not only strengthens India’s position in sustainable technical textiles but also sets a benchmark for dignified, responsible handling of national symbols and advanced fibres.
