PM Modi Highlights India-UK Landmark Trade Agreement, Says It Will Empower Farmers, Artisans and Small Businesses
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday shared an article highlighting the significance of the landmark India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), calling it a transformative step that will empower Indian farmers, fishermen, artisans, and small businesses while delivering better quality products at competitive prices for consumers.
Taking to social media platform X, the Prime Minister amplified a post by Union Minister Piyush Goyal, who detailed the far-reaching benefits of the bilateral trade agreement between India and the United Kingdom. The deal is seen as a major advancement in India’s global trade outreach and a boost for domestic economic growth.
In his message, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the inclusive nature of the agreement:
“The landmark India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement will empower Indian farmers, fishermen, artisans and small businesses, while ensuring quality products at better prices for everyday [consumers].”
Union Minister Piyush Goyal, who has led the negotiations from the Indian side, noted that the agreement will open new avenues for trade, investment, and employment, particularly in sectors like agriculture, fisheries, textiles, and manufacturing. He emphasized that the deal focuses on mutual growth and leverages India’s traditional strengths while enhancing consumer choice and affordability.
The India-UK CETA, once implemented, is expected to eliminate or reduce tariffs on a wide range of goods, improve market access, facilitate easier movement of professionals and services, and promote deeper cooperation in digital trade, innovation, and sustainability.
The agreement marks a new chapter in India-UK economic relations, aligning with India’s broader vision of becoming a global manufacturing and export hub, while simultaneously boosting grassroots sectors and ensuring benefits trickle down to the last mile.
