Odisha Launches ‘Bikshita Gaon Bikashita Odisha’ Scheme for Rural Development
Bhubaneswar, Jan 22 : The Odisha Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, has approved the “Bikshita Gaon Bikashita Odisha” scheme, aimed at fostering inclusive growth and sustainable development in rural areas. The scheme will span five years, with an estimated project outlay of ₹5,000 crore.
A budgetary allocation of ₹1,000 crore has already been earmarked for the 2024-25 fiscal year. The initiative focuses on bridging critical gaps in infrastructure and promoting development through projects like rural road construction, civic amenities, sports infrastructure, and micro-tourism enhancements.
High priority will be given to inter-village and intra-village road development. Need-based community projects will be undertaken to create durable assets, with active involvement from Gram Sabhas in identifying local requirements.
Project proposals will undergo scrutiny by block-level technical committees, ensuring feasibility and adherence to financial norms. District Collectors will serve as the approving authority for the finalized projects.
The scheme emphasizes community participation in supervising quality and maintaining assets, ensuring long-term benefits for rural Odisha. It aligns with the state’s commitment to fostering equitable and sustainable development.
