Odisha to Fill 5,000 Doctor Vacancies Soon: CM Majhi
Puri: The Odisha government will soon fill 5,000 vacant doctor positions, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced on Friday. Speaking at the National Summit on Good and Replicable Practices and Innovations in India’s Public Healthcare System in Puri, the CM reaffirmed the state’s commitment to strengthening its healthcare infrastructure.
Highlighting recent recruitment efforts, Majhi mentioned that 3,537 healthcare personnel have already been appointed across the state. To further reinforce the medical workforce, he also announced the establishment of eight new nursing colleges. Additionally, two new medical colleges will be set up in Phulbani and Angul during the 2025-26 academic session, and four new dental colleges will also be opened soon.
In a major healthcare reform, Odisha will transform its 7,358 Urban and Rural Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and Sub-Centres into Ayushman Arogya Mandirs. Furthermore, the state plans to construct new buildings for 1,338 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs in the upcoming financial year, ensuring better healthcare accessibility for citizens.
Emphasizing Odisha’s vision for a healthier future, CM Majhi quoted the Sanskrit verse, ‘Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah, Sarve Bhadrani Pashyantu’, meaning, “May all be happy, may all be free from illness.”
A significant milestone in Odisha’s healthcare journey will be the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) alongside the state’s Gopabandhu Jana Arogya Yojana. This integration will allow Odisha’s citizens, including migrant workers, to avail of quality healthcare services at 29,000 empanelled government and private hospitals across the country.
With these initiatives, the Odisha government aims to enhance the healthcare landscape, ensuring affordable and accessible medical services for all, while strengthening the state’s healthcare and economic ecosystem.
