Odisha to Open Premarital Counselling Centre to Reduce Divorces Among Young Couples

In a bid to address the rising number of divorces among young couples, the Odisha government has decided to set up a premarital counselling centre in the state. The initiative aims to provide guidance and support to couples before marriage, helping them navigate relationship challenges effectively.
The decision was taken on Tuesday by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi following a recommendation from National Commission for Women (NCW) chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar. The move is expected to promote awareness about marital responsibilities, communication skills, and conflict resolution strategies.
Officials believe that premarital counselling will equip couples with the necessary tools to build strong and lasting relationships, reducing the likelihood of early marital discord and separation. The centre will offer professional counselling services, workshops, and educational sessions on various aspects of married life.
The government is likely to finalize the structure and operational framework of the counselling centre in the coming weeks. Experts and social activists have welcomed the initiative, considering it a proactive step toward strengthening family values and ensuring marital stability in Odisha.
