Odisha to build ₹40-cr goshala in Bhubaneswar

Odisha Govt to Establish ₹40-Crore Goshala for Stray Cattle in Bhubaneswar

The Odisha government on Thursday announced plans to set up a model goshala (cow shelter) in Bhubaneswar at an estimated cost of ₹40 crore to ensure better care and protection of stray cattle.

Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra said the facility will not only provide shelter but will also focus on the production of medicines and other by-products from cow dung and urine.

The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has already identified land for the project, which will be developed as a model facility with modern infrastructure.

Officials said the initiative is expected to help address the growing stray cattle menace in the capital city while simultaneously creating opportunities for generating organic products with commercial value.

The state government has described the move as part of its efforts to combine animal welfare, sustainable practices, and urban management in Odisha’s rapidly expanding capital.
