Odisha to Add 400 E-Buses to ‘Mo’ Bus Service Fleet

The Odisha government has announced the addition of 400 electric buses (e-buses) to its ‘Mo’ Bus service under the PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme. This development was confirmed by Housing and Urban Development Department Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra on Wednesday.

Minister Mahapatra experienced the city’s public transport firsthand by traveling on a ‘Mo’ Bus from Master Canteen to Press Square. During the journey, he engaged with commuters to gather feedback about their travel experiences on the ‘Mo’ Bus service, which is managed by the Odisha government.

Addressing the media, Mahapatra expressed satisfaction with the progress of the ‘Mo’ Bus service over the past six years. “We have been doing well for the last six years. Out of the 400 buses that are running, 63 are e-buses. All of them will be e-buses in the future. There are plans to run 100 buses in Bhubaneswar, 100 in Cuttack, 50 in Sambalpur, and 100 in Rourkela,” he said.

The ‘Mo’ Bus service, known for its reliability and efficiency, aims to enhance urban mobility in Odisha’s major cities. The introduction of additional e-buses aligns with the state’s commitment to promoting sustainable and eco-friendly transportation solutions.

The PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme is a central government initiative aimed at transforming urban transport systems across India by introducing electric buses to reduce carbon emissions and improve air quality. Odisha’s proactive approach to integrating more e-buses into its public transport fleet is expected to set a benchmark for other states to follow.

The expansion of the e-bus fleet is anticipated to provide a significant boost to public transportation in Odisha, making daily commutes more environmentally friendly and efficient for its residents.
