Odisha Joins Ayushman Bharat Revolution

AB PM-JAY to Transform Healthcare for Odisha’s People: CM Majhi

Bhubaneswar, January 13, 2025 – Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has expressed that the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) will bring a transformative shift in healthcare delivery across Odisha, especially for the state’s rural population. Speaking on the occasion of the scheme’s implementation, CM Majhi emphasized the significant impact the program will have on improving medical treatment access for millions of families in the state.

An estimated 1.3 crore families, as well as over 23 lakh senior citizens aged above 70, will benefit from enhanced medical facilities through AB PM-JAY. The scheme, which has now been integrated with Odisha’s Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana, will provide comprehensive healthcare benefits to the people of the state.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the scheme’s implementation was signed between Odisha’s Health Department and the National Health Authority of the Union Government at an event held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, on Monday. This partnership allows the people of Odisha to access medical services at 29,000 hospitals across the country, compared to the current 900 hospitals available under the state’s previous health programs.

CM Majhi highlighted that, while the Ayushman Bharat scheme was launched in 2018, Odisha had previously been excluded from its benefits. With the integration of the scheme with the state’s own health initiative, Odisha’s residents will now have improved access to health facilities, a crucial step towards achieving the state’s goal of prosperity by 2036 and contributing to India’s vision of development by 2047.

The Chief Minister also announced the establishment of an “Ayushman Arogya Mandir” in every panchayat, where health workers and yoga instructors will be stationed to further promote wellness.

Additionally, CM Majhi revealed that the Odisha state budget for the health sector has been allocated approximately Rs. 21,000 crore, marking a 32.2% increase from the previous year. This allocation now constitutes 8% of the total state budget.

Under the AB PM-JAY scheme, male beneficiaries will receive medical coverage of up to Rs. 5 lakh, while female beneficiaries will be entitled to coverage of up to Rs. 10 lakh. This initiative marks a crucial step forward in ensuring accessible and affordable healthcare for the people of Odisha.
