Odisha Raises Village Guards’ Monthly Allowance

Odisha govt hikes monthly allowance for village guards
The Odisha government on Thursday announced an increase in the monthly allowance for ‘Grama Rakhis’ (village guards) from Rs 1,800 to Rs 2,500, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said.
An official statement said the decision was taken to improve the welfare of village guards, who play a key role in maintaining law and order and assisting the police in rural and remote areas of the state.
Along with the financial hike, the government has also directed all Grama Rakhis to report weekly to the police stations under whose jurisdiction they are posted. The move is aimed at ensuring greater accountability and strengthening coordination between village guards and law enforcement agencies.
Officials said regular reporting will help in better monitoring of ground-level situations, faster flow of information and more effective policing at the village level.
The revised allowance will benefit thousands of Grama Rakhis working across Odisha and is expected to boost morale among the grassroots security personnel.
