Odisha Raises Gratuity Limit for Government Employees to Rs 20 Lakh

Odisha Ups Gratuity Cap for Government Employees Following Service Associations’ Demands
Bhubaneswar, October 9, 2024: In a significant move benefiting state government employees, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has raised the gratuity limit under the Death-Cum-Retirement Gratuity (DCRG) scheme from Rs 15 lakh to Rs 20 lakh. This enhancement, announced on Tuesday, is applicable retroactively from January 1, 2024, for all regular employees of the state government.
The decision comes in response to repeated requests from various service associations in the state, who had been advocating for an increase in the DCRG ceiling to reflect rising living costs and ensure better financial security for retired employees and their families.
The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) confirmed the move through an official release, stating that the increased gratuity limit is aimed at providing enhanced post-retirement benefits, offering greater support for government employees in their retirement or in the event of untimely death.
With this step, Odisha aligns itself with other states that have already implemented similar measures to improve the social security of their employees.
