Odisha Announces Monthly Pension for Emergency Detainees
Bhubaneswar, January 13, 2025 – The Odisha government has announced a monthly pension of Rs. 20,000 for individuals who were imprisoned during the Emergency period nearly 50 years ago. The decision reflects the state’s recognition of their sacrifices for democracy during one of India’s most tumultuous eras.
As per a notification issued by the state Home Department, the pension scheme will also include full medical expense coverage for these detainees. This initiative aims to support and honor the individuals who endured hardships while standing up for democratic values during the Emergency from 1975 to 1977.
“The contributions and sacrifices of these individuals hold immense significance in our democratic history. This initiative is a token of respect and gratitude for their courage and resilience,” the notification stated.
